After 18 years in education, I've learned that every student has a story worth telling- and I'm here to help write the next chapter. My journey began in the classroom teaching World History I at Halifax County High School, where I discovered that understanding the past helps us shape better futures. Eight years later, I traded my teacher's desk for an administrator's coffee mug, spending two years as assistant principal in Halifax before finding my home with Campbell County Public Schools.
For the past seven years as assistant principal at William Campbell Combined School, I've had the privilege of watching students surprise themselves with what they can achieve. Now, in my new role as Supervisor of Student Development at Cornerstone Learning Center, I'm excited to expand that mission across our entire division.
My academic credentials include a bachelor's degree in Government and Religious Studies from the University of Virginia, a master's in Educational Leadership from Longwood University, and I'm currently putting the finishing touches on my doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech (because apparently, I never outgrew being a student myself).
When I'm not advocating for students, you'll find me running backroads or buried in a good book- both activities that clear my head and remind me why I love what I do. At home, I'm outnumbered by my husband Jay of 13 years, our sons John (15) Jackson (12) and Will (5), and our three-dog welcoming committee: Grace the Weimaraner, Bo the yellow lab, and Maggie, a mini golden doodle who has appointed herself my personal shadow.
I believe deeply in second chances and the untapped potential within every student. My purpose is simple: to create opportunities for students to overcome their challenges, discover their true potential, and successfully transition back to their educational journey with the support they need to thrive
